- Giacomo Balla was one of the founders
of the (primarily Italian) Futurist art school. Rejecting realism
in favor of the abstraction of chaos, Balla's art was typified
by its bright, wide array of colors and shapeless swaths of paint,
a seemingly random style that nonetheless relied on careful planning
and fine attention to detail. Painting at the onset of World
War I, many of Balla's works, including "Patriotic Demonstration,"
incorporated nationalist themes with Futurist form.
