Federico Barocci's religious art focused on the small, seemingly insignificant details of the spiritual world. Finding as much symbolism in the young Christ's circumcision as in his later crucifixion, Barocci devoted his work to the secret history of personal redemption, private salvation and intimate spirituality in the living world.
