A French artist of the early 20th century,
Marcel Duchamp prided himself on painting concepts rather than
specific objects. In that respect, he was both a contemporary
and rival of artists as diverse as Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
Duchamp's pieces often included darker, rich brown and golden
hues. However, where technique was concerned he varied his style
from piece to piece, at times making use of rigid lines and right
angles ("The Bride Stripped Bare"), at others conceiving
a piece as a mass of color and texture, almost completely devoid
of shape ("Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2").
- Paintings Available by Marcel Duchamp:
- Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2, 1912.
- Fountain, 1917.
- The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors,
Even, 1923.
